Ircania was founded in 2004 for production by the director Emilio Ruiz Barrachina with the aim of producing quality projects

Who we are

We work on all our projects with the firm belief that we are strengthening those cultural and social topics which affect our present. We research historical facts to recount them from a new point of view, generally based on recent studies.

Ircania is made up of a group of companies dedicated to the production and distribution of cinematography, television and music at international level and since 2006 has achieved several successes due to its innovation, content and commercial presence.

Emilio Ruiz Barrachina

He is a screen writer and director, specializing in documentaries. In 1997 he returned to Spain, having lived in Latin America as a journalist for ten years, with responsibilities such as Latin American service correspondent for the BBC.

His first novel, Calamarí (1998), has seen several editions. This was followed by A la sombra de los Sueños (In the Shadow of Dreams) (2000), adapted for the screen, El arco de la luna (The arc of the moon)(2001), winner of the 10th Luis Berenguer International novel award, the essay Brujos, reyes e inquisidores (Wizards, Kings and Inquisitors) (2003), the novel No te olvides de matarme (Don't forget to kill me)(2004), which in 2005 was adapted for the theatre; the literary essay Tinta y Piedra (Ink and Stone), Calaceite, el pueblo donde convivieron los autores del Boom (Calaceite, the town where the Boom authors lived) (2005) and Le ordeno a usted que me quiera (I order to you to love me) (2006). In 2007 he won the 3rd Ruben Dario International Poetry award with the book "Arroyo (Stream)". His most recent publication is the novel"La venta del Paraíso (The sale of Paradise)", translated into various languages and soon to become a film.

He has directed documentaries for the cinema and television such as "Luz, espacio y creación (Light, space and creation)", "Tinta y Piedra (Ink and Stone)", "Niñas Soldado (Girl soldiers)", "Desminadoras en Sudán (Demining in Sudan)", "Emigrantes (Emigrants)" or "Lorca. El mar deja de moverse (Lorca. The sea stops moving)", about the death of the poet Federico García Lorca that won several international awards. In 2008 the documentaries "Orson Welles y Goya (Orson Wells and Goya)" and "La España de la Copla ('Copla' Spain) " premiered. In 2010 he directed the controversial feature film "El Discípulo (The Disciple)". In 2011 he completed the musical film "Morente", which will be the posthumous legacy of the great singer from Granada, Enrique Morente.
