Copla Spain (2009)

 

Documentary which tells the social and political history of the copla, from its origins in the early twentieth century until the 60's, when the Franco regime became its main supporter in the name of "Spanish or Andalusian song" and simultaneously its executioner.

Four large figures, born in 1908, serve to support the plot. They are: Concha Piquer, Rafael de León, Angelillo and Miguel de Molina.

The three phases covered by the story are the first third of the twentieth century, the republic and its aftermath. The documentary shows and retrieves songs sung in old films and audiovisual documents of great importance, some very rarely seen.
