Lorca (2006)

The Sea Stops Moving

Film and television documentary analysing from an objective point of view the final hours of Federico García Lorca and the subsequent transformation of the Rosales and Lorca families.

So far much has been written on the subject; there have been several fictional films and several talk shows were broadcasted in the 80's. But a great documentary bringing together all possible theories and providing serious and objective conclusions had not been undertaken.

This documentary shows that everything until now has many nuances to be studied. Each student, each researcher, each person concerned, still judges the facts from a particular viewpoint. Miguel Caballero and Pilar Góngora provide the latest research on the political, economic and personal framework between the Garcías, Roldans and Albas which begins in the nineteenth century and culminates in the writing by the poet of "The House of Bernarda Alba". For 70 years, the García Lorca family has maintained a discreet silence, just as some members of the Rosales family. In this work the errors that both the Lorca and the Rosales families committed are analyzed as well as the persecution they were mutually subjected to by the Civil Government and the Falange of which some of the Rosales brothers were leading members.

The end of Lorca was involved in a complex web of events ranging from a personal tussle between Ruiz Alonso and the Rosales, hatred between the Roldans, the Albas and Lorcas, as well as political and repressive components that prevailed in Granada in 1936. In this documentary we extol human dignity above the miseries that accompanied such a terrible episode. "The sea stops moving" is a line: the definition which Lorca gives of the murder in a verse of "Poet in New York".
